Richard Wagner's Ring of the Nibelung at the Paris Opéra - The RING 2026 Event

13-17 August 1876: dates firmly anchored in the memory of Wagner music lovers. In the space of five days, the first Bayreuth Festival saw the premiere of the complete Ring cycle. A Prologue (Das Rheingold) and three Days (Die Walküre, Siegfried and Götterdämmerung): a formidable lyrical epic worthy of the composer who gave it birth, The Ring of the Nibelung is a fascinating world-work whose performance over a short period allows the spectator to appreciate its riches with maximum intensity.

Two festivals at the Paris Opera

The 150th anniversary of the complete premiere of The Ring will be commemorated at the Paris Opéra with two “festivals”, one from 6 to 13 November 2026, the second from 15 to 22 November 2026. Calixto Bieito and Pablo Heras-Casado, whose skills we have already been able to appreciate in Das Rheingold, Die Walküre and Siegfried, will continue there collaboration for the presentation of the complete cycle. This production bears the signature of a stage director familiar with the Wagnerian world. The Catalan artist describes The Ring of the Nibelung as "a cruel story that speaks of society and human nature, of the manipulation, greed and selfishness that permeate even the smallest cell of society, the family. The Ring is full of images of our existence, of absurd struggles, of vain desires, and of deep despair in the face of personal, family and social destruction. It is as brutal and surreal as life itself.
